Frequently Asked Questions

Question #1

How can we get ahead of our seemingly endless string of IT issues? It seems like something is always failing to work properly.

Answer #1

Stop the bleeding! Unreliable IT equipment will be a constant drain on your cash. Start with an assessment of your existing hardware and related issues. As simple as it sounds, the best approach is to identify the part of your IT system causing the problem and either reconfigure or replace that hardware. Frequently, finding the root cause of the issue is the hard part. Your goal should be to build a solid, reliable IT infrastructure which will require minimal maintenance for years to come. And remember, keep it simple!

Question #2

Should I use managed services to maintain my computers or is it less expensive to just wait until something breaks and then address the issue at that time?

Answer #2

In many instances, these costs are comparable. While you certainly do not need to spend a lot of money to keep your network operating reliably, there is a hidden cost associated with waiting to address problems only when they surface and that is you can never tell when that will occur. If a critical part of your network goes down in the middle of an important project, then you can lose a lot of money in an instant. So some portion of your budget should be allocated to monitoring and maintaining the elements of your IT system which when left unattended can cause loss of productivity. While all businesses have different requirements, the health of your workstations and making sure you have solid, monitored data backup systems are two great areas to start.
